Love on Netflix. Community also making the rounds in the home. Whose got Gillian Jacobs on the mind? It was a serendipitous coincidence. With Girls leaving us this year, we still have Love working for us in a similar vein, reminding us we aren’t quite grown up (and we’ve got to grow up and we’ve got to do things and try new things but also not get too addicted to the things we love…). Also, let me just say that Gus’s self-sabotage of his career, in both the first and second season, is just such a fantastic reminder of WHAT NOT TO DO. God, don’t do that. Don’t be like that. I can’t believe this guy. It’s familiar though...scary, familiar Gus. I can see myself in Gus. Relate to him as the writer, relate to his age and his sense of humor (unapologetic geekiness?). He is comfortable with the person he has become in his thirties and you get the sense that he probably doesn’t miss his twenties very much (what is there to miss except a whole mishmash of insecurity and eye rolling pretentiousness?). But the neurosis he experiences under pressure is the part that frightens me; that monster lying in way, lurking just beneath the surface, ready to ruin all the good things you have created for yourself…..get a grip. Take a deep breath.
Love the show. Love Mickey. In Love Birdie..... Love to the whole damn pirate cast.
