We are happy to announce the inclusion of a brand new category of illustrations under the header Timeless Wonders! These beautiful and profound images will center around marginalized and censored histories. They will involve the men and women whose existences were stamped out due to race, sexual orientation or gender. We look at the void left by the exclusion of these characters; we imagine their existence as it should have been celebrated throughout the decades and centuries. Artist Peter Cimpoe is especially interested in looking at these characters through the lens of science fiction and fantasy. The first image of this collection is entitled “We’ll Always Be Here.” It is a telling piece, full bodied and colourful. It is bittersweet and celebratory. These gay men were erased from the pages of classic science fiction. They were censored and told that they did no exist. They were told they were not worth existing. They were not acknowledge and if acknowledge, they forced into the shadows and portrayed as villains. Peter takes back the story and shines a light on the beauty that was a life lived apart from conventional story telling. In this image, the men are front and center. They are living their lives shame free. They are in love. They are celebrating. They exist.
Welcome home, star explorers :)
